The demolished Gibbard Furniture Factory was a virtual gold mine of old growth wood and a Toronto business owner and tv star thinks he can make something beautiful out of it. Niko K, a regular on the History Channel’s Salvage Kings, is salvaging the wood and beams from the historic Napanee building to be used in furniture, countertops, shelving, flooring and more, for use in the new Gibbard District Riverside Community now under construction. NIko tells us we might even see it on the tv show.
Niko runs Deadstock Reclaimed, a creative studio run by artists, sculptors, blacksmiths and carpenters that make custom furniture out of reclaimed materials. He says he heard about the Gibbard project from a friend who lives in Newburgh. He was in town on Saturday to pick up the first shipment of 150 units of very thick timber.
