The Eastern Ontario Regional Network initiative to bring reliable wireless service to the region has taken a big step forward.
Rogers Communications says in partnership with EORN, the Ontario and federal governments, millions of dollars will be invested in new infrastructure. Regionally, a $10 million contribution will be made by the Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus and Eastern Ontario Mayors’ Caucus.
Participating counties include Hastings, Lennox and Addington, Prince Edward, Leeds and Grenville, Prescott Russell, Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry and Northumberland.
The municipalities of Gananoque, Kingston, Belleville, Quinte West and Smiths Falls are also participating.
Rogers says more than 100 municipalities and indigenous communities will have reliable wireless service within four years, without dead zones. 95% of customers will have access to standard definition video and video app calling. 85% will have access to High Definition video streaming.
