A youth has been arrested following an incident with a BB gun at a high school in Kingston’s West end.
The accused youth was observed this morning at Frontenac Secondary School, where they were not a registered student, with three other youth. Witnesses notified school administration when they observed that the accused youth had brandished a firearm outside of the school.
Kingston police were contacted shortly after 11am and secured containment around the school upon arrival. The accused was viewed on security video entering the school with what appeared to be a Glock style handgun. As it was unknown if the gun was real or a replica, the school was placed in lockdown as members of the Kingston Police Emergency Response Unit conducted a thorough search inside the school.
Police learned that the accused and the other youths left the property and split up, and were possible bound for Bayridge Secondary School, Bayridge Public School and/or Holy Cross Secondary School. Out of an abundance of caution, the three schools were all placed in a hold and secure status.
The accused was located and arrested shortly after 12pm at a residence in Kingston’s west end. The other three youths were also located, one of which having the Glock style BB gun in question in their possession. The lockdown and hold and secures were all lifted.
The accused was transported to police headquarters where they are being held pending a bail hearing. A 13-year-old local youth was charged with possession of an imitation weapon dangerous to the public peace and carrying a concealed weapon.
