Scammers use many world disasters to try and gain your personal information and money. Recently the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center has been receiving phone calls about claims of government agencies offering assistance for Hurricane Fiona. The suspect call victims claiming to be from the government and offer assistance for flooding caused by the hurricane. Suspects have been asking victims to purchase gift cards, which police say, is a scam. Police also add that the government will never call you for personal information or payments involving gift cards.
