Stephen Lecce wants teachers unions to follow the lead of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation and agree to good-faith negotiations until October 27th, before sending any outgoing issues to an arbitrator to avoid possible strikes. The sides tentatively reached an agreement last week.
The Minister of Education said the main focus is keeping students in class.
The province and the four major teachers unions have had scattered talks over recent months, and the efforts are expected to ramp up with classes beginning next week.
