The Napanee Beaver has changed ownership, with the current managing editor, Adam Prudhomme, taking over.
Prudhomme moved to Napanee and began working for the paper as a sports reporter in 2008. He then worked his way up to managing editor is 2019.
The paper was purchased by Earl and Jean Morrison in 1953. After Earl’s sudden passing in 1978, Jean carried on publishing both the Beaver and Picton Gazette until her passing in 2019 at the age of 97.
Prudhomme says after Mrs. Morrison’s passing, her children continued to operate both papers, selling the Gazette last May and now the Beaver.
He says after the initial shock of that offer, he decided it was a great opportunity for himself and the employees of the paper.
The paper first began printing in 1870 and has been locally and family owned since. Prudhomme says it was important to him when the opportunity came up, to continue that legacy.
For now, there will be no changes to the paper. Prudhomme will still be visible in the community attending events with his two young daughters Molly and Clara, who may one day take over the new family business.
