UPDATE: The Lennox and Addington OPP say the fatal John Street Fire has been deemed as suspicious. “At this time there have been no arrests or charges in relation to the fire or death,” the OPP shared in a media release.
They have also shared the identity of the deceased, 67-year-old Walter Lasher from Greater Napanee.
The L&A County OPP Crime Unit is continuing the investigation under the direction of the Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Fire Marshall, the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Around 8pm Saturday night, Greater Napanee Emergency Services responded to a fire on John Street in Napanee near the intersection of Bridge Street East.
The Greater Napanee Fire Department, Lennox and Addington Paramedic Services and L&A OPP responded to the fire in a multi-unit dwelling.
myFM spoke with Greater Napanee fire chief Shawn Armstrong at the scene.
An investigation into the fire is now underway.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has been notified.
At the time, Chief Armstrong had no update on any injuries sustained. One person was transported to hospital and myFM has since learned they were later pronounced deceased.
Greater Napanee Emergency Services had to return to the scene at approximately 4 a.m. on Sunday morning to tackle a flare-up. The fire was successfully subdued after about 45 minutes.
