An arrested has been made in connection with the deadly fire at a home in Napanee.
On August 3, 2024, just before 8:15 p.m., the Lennox and Addington County OPP, along with the Greater Napanee Fire Department and Hastings Quinte Paramedic Services, responded to a fire at a multi-unit residence on John Street in Greater Napanee. A 67-year-old resident was taken to the hospital by ambulance and was pronounced dead shortly after.
As a result of the investigation, 31-year-old Andrew James Thompson of Picton has been arrested and charged with:
- Murder, Section. 235(1) of the Criminal Code
- Criminal harassment – threatening conduct, Section 264(2)(d) of the Criminal Code
- Arson – disregard for human life, Section 433(a) of the Criminal Code
- Arson – damage to property, Section 434 of the Criminal Code – (three counts)
Thompson is still in custody and is scheduled to appear in Court in Napanee tomorrow, August 10th.
The L&A County OPP Crime Unit is continuing to investigate, with the help of the Criminal Investigation Branch, the Office of the Fire Marshal, the Office of the Chief Coroner, and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
