A new Hastings-Quinte Paramedic Services ambulance base has opened in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. Hastings County and the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte celebrated the opening on Tuesday with local dignitaries and community members, marking a significant milestone in local healthcare.
This new base is the result of a partnership approved by Hastings County Council in February 2024, bringing together Hastings/Quinte Paramedic Services and the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte. The ambulance service will operate 24/7 from the Mohawk Fire Hall, ensuring round-the-clock emergency care.
“The Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte are thrilled to have entered this new partnership with Hastings County and the Ministry of Health. It will greatly improve service delivery on-territory and impact the overall health and care of our community members,” said R. Donald Maracle, Chief of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte.
The Emergency Health Services Branch (EHSB) of the Ministry of Health is fully funding the operation, covering 100% of the costs for at least the next eight years. This collaboration is expected to greatly enhance emergency response times, improve healthcare services, and positively impact the overall well-being of the residents of Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.
