As the new school year gets underway, the Town of Greater Napanee is reminding drivers to follow crossing guard safety rules. There are five posted crossing guard locations around town, including one near Southview School that runs on a later schedule. Motorists must come to a complete stop when a crossing guard raises their stop sign and wait until all students and the guard have left the intersection. Cyclists are also required to follow the rules by dismounting and walking their bikes through the crossing when the stop sign is raised.
Crossing guards work in all weather conditions if schools are open, even on days when buses are cancelled. The town urges drivers and cyclists to stay alert, follow the rules of the road, and help keep students and crossing guards safe. More information about crossing guard posts is available on the town’s website.
