From January to June 2024, the Prince Edward County OPP have responded to 78 fraud incidents, with local losses surpassing $815,000.
Scammers often create a sense of urgency to get personal information and demand secrecy. Most frauds happen online or through phone calls, including fake ads, social media, and email scams.
The OPP advises residents to stay safe by following key tips: Don’t let anyone pressure you into making quick decisions, never share personal information with strangers, and always use legitimate websites or services. Avoid clicking suspicious links and don’t be afraid to say no. If a deal sounds too good to be true, it likely is!
Residents are encouraged to visit the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre website for more information on how to protect themselves from scams. Stay alert and protect your personal information to avoid falling victim to fraud.
