We continue our profiles of the local candidates running in the Provincial election.
Hastings-Lennox and Addington NDP Candidate Jessica Zielke grew up in this riding in Northbrook and Tweed before moving abroad and living for some time in Australia and Japan, and eventually moving back to the riding with her Australian husband to raise their family here.
When asked of the top issues facing H-L&A, Zielke shared one of the biggest issues during this campaign is the lack of support for rural municipalities
Other issues include the thousands of people in the riding not connect to a health care provider, affordability, and housing.
How will Zielke and the NDP solve these issues? She said the important thing is to remember that people should be at the heart of every political decision made.
When asked how they will protect local residents and businesses from a potential trade war and proposed tariffs, she began by noting that responding to tariffs is really important and that it’s understandable people are feeling afraid, but she feels the reaction we’re seeing from Premier Doug Ford is not helping that.
She told us more about the NDP’s response to tariff threats
Election Day is February 27th.
