It took overtime to crown a champion at the first ever Four Nations Face-Off in Boston last night. Here’s the call of the winner, shared by Hockey Canada on Facebook.
Canada came out on top with a 3-2 win over the United States.
At the post-game media conference, Connor McDavid, the overtime hero told the media that everyone on the team laid it all on the line.
Nathan McKinnon and Sam Bennett, a Kingston Frontenacs alumni, also scored for Canada and goaltender Jordan Binnington made 31 saves, including some game-saving stops in overtime.
Brady Tkachuk and Jake Sanderson, both Ottawa Senators, scored for the United States.
The game took on added importance with a looming trade war with the United States on the horizon and American President Donald Trump’s continued talk of making Canada the 51st US state.
Following the game, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took to X to make a statement, “You can’t take our country — and you can’t take our game.”
The next best-on-best international hockey tournament will be at the Olympic Games in Italy.
