The 2025 budget for the South East Health Unit received unanimous approval Wednesday morning (Feb. 26).
It’s a balanced budget of nearly $60.3 million, a good starting point in the eyes of board member Anne-Marie Koiner.
The budget took some doing as the three former area health units became one as their finances became intertwined.
Medical Officer of Health and CEO Piotr Oglaza said they’ll have to find savings or additional revenue in the years ahead as their operation expenses are on track to exceed their annual government funding.
Nearly $48 million of the expense budget is salaries and employment benefits.
Oglaza said that could lead to tough decisions having to be made.
