Greater Napanee council has approved a revised agreement allowing the Lennox and Addington Chamber of Commerce to run a farmers market at Market Square. The deal also lets the Chamber use part of Town Hall for office space.
Changes to the agreement include removing access to the third floor and allowing Chamber meetings on the first floor through the town’s booking system. Leasing first-floor space is delayed until certain materials are cleared. Until then, the Chamber will stay at its current location.
Some councillors raised concerns about whether other groups were interested in running the market. Councillor Bill Martin suggested the Market Square Advisory Committee should have been consulted first.
Mayor Terry Richardson said the Chamber will operate the market for two days a week, leaving five other days open for others. Despite concerns, the agreement was approved, and the town will move forward with next steps.
