Emergency crews successfully rescued a person from a vehicle at the top of the Napanee River falls on Saturday evening.
First responders were called at 6:45 p.m. after the vehicle entered the river near Springside Park dam. The vehicle stopped near the top tier of the falls, prompting a daring recovery effort.
During the rescue, two firefighters were swept over the falls by the strong current. They were quickly rescued by a fellow firefighter, but one was taken to the hospital, later being released with minor injuries.
The vehicle occupant was safely retrieved using a ladder and treated for injuries.
Fire Chief Shawn Armstrong praised the heroic efforts of the responders, emphasizing their teamwork and commitment. A full review of the incident will take place to improve future response strategies.
The Lennox and Addington OPP say the vehicle remains in the river. Crews are waiting for the right equipment to remove it safely.
Police have not shared details on how the crash happened. The investigation is ongoing.
